Spinal and Extremity Adjusting
Spinal adjusting, also called joint manipulation or mobilizations, is a tremendously effective tool in
addressing restricted joints. Improper movement chains the body and can lead to pain, tissue damage, muscle tightness, or nerve irritation.Chiropractic adjustments safely and effectively restore motion to restricted joints and normalize the movement of the body as a whole.
Active Release Techniques Soft Tissue Therapy (ART)
Drake Chiropractic and Rehab is one of the only clinics in the Leavenworth County area that provides Active Release Technique (A.R.T.) services. A.R.T. is most commonly used to treat conditions related to
adhesions or scar tissue in overused muscles. As adhesions build up, muscles become shorter and weaker, the motion of muscles and joints are altered, and nerves can be compressed. The list of conditions that can be treated with Active Release Technique include headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, other nerve entrapments, shin splints, sciatica, TMJ, plantar fasciitis, tendonitis and other soft tissue inflammatory disorders of the joints. The goal of Active Release Technique is to restore the smooth movement of tissues and to release any trapped nerves or blood vessels. Our body uses scar tissue extensively in the same way that tar patch repairs are added to fix small cracks in the road. When muscles, or other tissues, are overstressed or injured, our bodies use scar tissue as a patch repair. This is a natural part of the healing process. However, if the source of the injury is not corrected the tissue will accumulate too much scar tissue, which then becomes a problem. This is similar to when a road has been given too many patch repairs and is no longer smooth
ART is NOT a massage!
Massage is useful for temporarily decreasing muscle tension, but ART has a very different purpose. Instead, the intent is to "resurface the road." This technique works out the scar tissue and helps the tissues to heal normally with long-lasting results. It is important to state that pain, numbness, or other symptoms may not resolve if the scar tissue is not broken up as well as the source of the tension discovered. Both of these can be accomplished by a careful exam and knowledgeable ART provider.

How it works:
Reduces muscle fatigue and promotes blood flow for faster recovery.
Aids in injury treatment
Strong adhesive that lifts the skin when applied to a stretched muscle (accelerating blood flow to increase the amount of oxygen available to muscles).
Reduces swelling and inflammation by assisting the lymphatic system.
The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment for pregnant women. The goal of the adjustment is to reduce the effects of pelvic dysfunction and improve neurological function to the pelvis. Regular adjustments
throughout pregnancy can help decrease low back pain, sciatica, and other aches and pains as the body changes during pregnancy.

Rehabilitative Exercise Protocols
Our rehabilitative protocols require active patient participation and are meant to reproduce actions necessary for natural and efficient movements. Research has shown that patients with chronic pain improve faster with increased activity. Dr. Drake will develop an individualized exercise protocol specifically designed for each patient according to their type of injury and the sport/activity they wish to return to. Scientific studies also show that exercise is more effective when combined with manual therapy (adjustments, soft tissue treatments, kinesiotape, etc).
Functional Dry Needling
Functional Dry Needling treatment involves placing very thin, solid needles into tight or painful muscles. It is particularly helpful in treating trigger point "knots" and stimulating proper muscle function before rehab.
Dry Needling is an alternative medicine methodology originating in ancient China. Dry Needling involves the insertion of very thin needles through a patient’s skin at specific points on the body – the needles are inserted to various depths. This treatment option has resounding therapeutic
benefits, including pain relief, decreasing muscle tension/trigger points, etc.
Many workplace injuries are a result of cumulative trauma disorders (CTD). CTDs are injuries that occur not from one specific incident, but rather from performing a set of movements movements repetitively (such as typing or controlling a mouse).
Dr. Drake will evaluate the workplace and suggest changes that may assist in minimizing this type of injury. Using a combination of the therapies available to him, Dr. Drake is also able to effectively treat workers suffering from these types of disorders.
Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization
DNS – Is a concept based on development kinesiology (how we develop as children), which can be re-applied to adults through proper respiration (breathing) and corrective exercise. Respiration is our most important movement pattern. Retraining proper respiration, in conjunction with corrective exercise, can help with conditions related to the musculoskeletal system (low back pain, neck pain, headaches, shoulder pain, etc), as well as gastro-intestinal conditions (acid reflux, Irritable bowel syndrome), anxiety, stress, etc.
